Sightseeing around the Castillon

Trivières is so close to many exciting destinations !

Do you like walking and/or biking ? : The Ravel, is a path that goes through the countryside, and joins the canal for example.  From Seneffe to Arquennes, you will discover an underlying world of history lying under every step you’ll take.

Do you like to discover exciting towns  ? Then check Soignies and its roman church ; Mons : its Grand-Place, its amazin St-Waudru cathedral, its Art Museums d’art or history … ANd Mons 2015 of course, Mons is the capital of European culture all year long !

Around the Castillon are world famous engineering prowess : the inclined plane boat pulling device of RONQUIERES ou the impressive and biggest boat lift in the world in  Strépy-Thieu…

Also, you cannot leave Belgium if you haven’t checked the : Mariemont museum and park, along with its gallo-roman collections. Ianchelevici sculptures and the Daily Bul, and the centre de la Gravure in La Louvière, which is unique in Belgium.

In love with History ? Then go and check Waterloo, the battlefield where Napoleon was beaten by the English. There is also l’écomusée et le musée de la mine de Bois du Luc or the coal mine site of the Bois du Cazier, the boat lifts of the canal du Centre… Why not try a boat trip over the canal, going through locks, and then have your tea àla cantine des Italiens ?

A major attraction of WalloniaPairi Daiza park (« Closed garden », in Persian )(New name of formerly named Paradision). Elephants, girafes and recenlty official host of Xinhui (« Sparkling star » in Chinese) et Haohao (« Gentle » in chinese) enter the indonesian village and feel relaxed in the chinese gardens, Also plenty outdoor playgrounds that would ravish any child are available. That is a place that pleases anyone at any age !

Those in love with Folklore, an amazing museum is a must see :  : le Musée du Masque in BINCHE…

Without forgetting, of course Carnivals from the Région du Centre : Binche, La Louvière, …. and another famous one in Mons,  The « DOUDOU », its procession and its well-know Combat between the Dragon and Saint-Georges !

If you do come in September, you might have the chance to see ‘Décrocher La Lune’, in La Louvière A spectacle from the world famous Franco Dragone, from La Louvière. He is the author and creator of the Cirque du Soleil !
